Quantum Techade Summit 2023

The Quantum Techade: Co-creation and Collaboration Summit 2023, organized by C-DAC Bangalore, was a three-day event focused on co-creation and collaboration among experts from various fields in the pursuit of quantum technology advancements. The event’s objective was to facilitate nationwide collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The formal inaugural session of the Quantum Techade Summit commenced with the presence of esteemed delegates, namely Ms. Sunita Verma, GC at MeitY, Govt. of India,  Prof. Tarun Souradeep, Director RRI, Prof. Apoorva Patel from IISc, Prof. Urbasi Sinha from RRI and Prof. Anil Prabhakar from IITM.  Col. A K Nath, ED, Corporate & Strategy, C-DAC, delivered the welcome address, and Dr. Sudarsan, ED, C-DAC Bangalore, explained C-DAC’s journey in quantum technologies and the importance of this techade event in fostering co-creation and collaboration in this field.  Prof. Apoorva Patel discussed the significance of creating a practical quantum ecosystem and developing special-purpose devices. Prof. Anil Prabhakar addressed the importance of investing in fundamental science and the challenges encountered in the Metro Area Quantum Access Network (MAQAN) project.  During her presentation, Prof. Urbasi Sinha provided an update on the latest advancements of the Raman Research Institute’s (RRI) initiatives in quantum technologies.

Prof. Tarun Sourdeep, Director RRI graciously launched the bi-monthly Quantum Newsletter – “Quantum Vibes” –  a newsletter featuring articles, interviews, and expert opinions from leading figures in the industry, as well as updates on the latest research, funding, and policy developments in the field of quantum technologies.

The summit’s first-panel discussion was titled “Quantum Technologies: Initiatives & Projects,” moderated by Ms. Sunita Verma, and featured panelists – Mr. Ashok Kumar from SAG, Prof. G Raghavan from DIAT, Dr. Yogesh Prasad from ISRO, and Mr. Manoj Jain from MeitY. Each panelist discussed initiatives and projects related to quantum technologies,  namely- QRNG and QKD certification, space-based quantum communication, project management, subsystem development, and collaboration. Ms. Sunita Verma highlighted the -commitment of the ministry in supporting multiple missions in this important technology area.

On the second day of the Quantum Techade summit, five sessions were held, featuring various discussions on Quantum Computing, Quantum Communications, and Quantum Sensing. The panel discussion on Quantum Computing covered topics such as the current state, challenges, and opportunities in areas of Quantum Simulations, Quantum Hardware, System Software, Algorithms & Applications. The Quantum Communications panel discussion focused on the present state, challenges, and opportunities in the field. The Quantum Sensing round table session concentrated on the current state, challenges, future directions, and collaboration opportunities in quantum sensing. The day concluded with a Fire-Side Chat that provided participants with an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities in quantum technology, including the potential for the younger generation to drive advancements in this field.

On Day 3 of the Quantum Techade 2023 conference, there were discussions on standardization and the way forward for quantum technology research and development efforts in India, with a special focus on the startups and industrial players in the supply chain for these technologies. The first session was moderated by Prof. RP Singh from PRL, where the panelists discussed the need for nationwide funding, conscious duplication and centralized facilities, understanding the complete ecosystem of quantum technology research, and the role of organizations and teachers in developing the potential of the country’s youth. The second session, moderated by Prof. Rajat Moona from IIT-G, featured representatives from BIS and IEEE and presentations from quantum startups. The importance of standardization was highlighted, and the session included discussions on collaboration for standardization efforts and presentations from quantum startups. The conference concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Haribabu, C-DAC.

Conclusion

The Quantum Techade: Co-creation and Collaboration Summit 2023 was a successful event that brought together experts from various fields to discuss and collaborate on quantum technology advancements.

The event brought together 50 participants from various organizations, including MeitY, SAC, ISRO, DRDO, SAMEER, TIFR, CMET, BEL, BIS, IISc., RRI, and IIT, SETS, DIAT, PRL, and Amrita University. The diverse group of attendees from different domains allowed for the exchange of ideas and collaborations across different areas of quantum technology. The summit covered a wide range of topics, including India’s initiative in quantum technologies, quantum computing, quantum communications and quantum sensing.

The event provided a platform for experts to share their knowledge and experiences, identify gaps in the Indian quantum technology domain, and discuss the challenges and opportunities in the field. The panel discussions and round table sessions provided valuable insights into the current state of quantum technology and the way forward.

Overall, the Quantum Techade: Co-creation and Collaboration Summit 2023 was a successful event that brought together experts and stakeholders from different domains to collaborate and co-create innovative solutions that will shape the future of the industry. The launch of “Quantum Vibes” adds to the excitement and potential of the community’s efforts in this space.
